Which spittoon capacity do I need?
Reckon on about half a litre per participant for a session of eight wines. For a table of four the 1.2 litre is enough; for a group of ten or more take the 3.7 litre or set out several bowls.
What is the difference between aluminium and plastic?
Aluminium is heavy and stays put if someone knocks into it, which suits a fixed tasting table. Plastic is light and stackable, making it the practical choice when you have to transport bowls to a venue.
How much wine do you pour at a tasting?
About five centilitres per glass. That is enough to look, smell and taste, and it makes a considerable difference to what ends up in the spittoon. Pouring more does not make the tasting better.
Can a wooden tasting board go in the dishwasher?
No. Wood draws water, swells and then splits along the grain, and that process cannot be reversed. Wipe the board and the tasting caddy with a damp cloth and let them dry on their side.
