How many cl should a cosmopolitan glass be?
A cosmopolitan comes to nine to eleven centilitres after dilution, so a bowl of 15.5 to 21 cl sits nicely full. Larger sizes of 24.5 cl and up are for when you pour more generously.
Why does a cosmopolitan glass have a stem?
The cocktail is served without ice. If your hand touches the bowl, the drink warms up within a minute and turns sweet and flat. A stem keeps your fingers off the chilled glass.
Can a cosmopolitan be served in a coupe?
Certainly. A coupe has a lower centre of gravity and sloshes less when you carry it, which works well behind a busy bar. The classic V-shape looks more dramatic but spills sooner.
How do you keep the stem of a cocktail glass from breaking?
Always pick the glass up by the stem or foot, even when empty, and load stemware into the dishwasher loose, with space between pieces. The weakest point is the join between stem and bowl, where the cross-section is smallest.
Why do you double strain a cosmopolitan?
Hard shaking creates ice shards that slip through the shaker's own strainer. They melt within two minutes and water down the cocktail. A fine tea strainer under the shaker holds them back.
