What is the difference between a coupe and a flute?
A flute is narrow and tall and holds on to the carbon dioxide for a long time; a coupe is wide and low, so the bubbles escape faster but the aroma is released at once. For young, fresh champagne choose the flute, for cocktails the coupe.
How many cl is a champagne coupe?
Usually between 16 and 33 cl. The smaller sizes of 16 to 22 cl are cocktail sizes, in which a shaken drink of twelve centilitres sits nicely. The larger sizes you fill no more than halfway with champagne.
Can you build a champagne tower with coupes?
Yes, and for that you choose a model with a wide flat foot and a sturdy stem. Only then do the glasses stand stably on one another. When serving, fill only the top glass and let the rest fill by itself.
Why is the coupe popular again?
Mainly because of the cocktail bar. Everything served without ice and drunk within ten minutes shows well in this shape. The wide surface releases the aroma at once and the low bowl topples less easily than a pointed martini bowl.
Can champagne coupes go in the dishwasher?
Most can, on a short glass programme. Never let the wide bowls touch each other, because that is where most breakage happens. Use little rinse aid, otherwise the large surface turns visibly dull.
