Stölzle Lausitz Experience

A wine glass that comes to the table every week needs to do two things at once. It should bring out the best in the wine and survive a full dishwasher without the stem giving way. The Experience series by Stölzle Lausitz was designed with the latter in mind, without making the bowl thick and cumbersome.

The series is deliberately compact: a 45 cl bowl and a 35 cl bowl, both packaged in sets of six. With these two sizes, you can fully set a table, from a full-bodied red to a crisp white, without having to stock a cupboard full of different models.

How to choose between 35 and 45 cl

Choosing between the two sizes is about the wine, not about the thirst. The 45 cl bowl gives red wine room to breathe: you fill it to about a third and keep enough air above that to swirl the glass. The 35 cl is narrower and therefore cooler, which works out better for white wine and rosé that you do not want to go tepid. Also look at the quantity, because six glasses a box means a breakage does not leave you short. Feel free to compare with the wider wine glass collection before you choose.

How to pour from an Experience bowl

Pour from the middle and stop at the widest point of the bowl; that leaves room for the aroma. Pour red a little more generously than white, because you want to be able to swirl within that volume. Hold the glass by the stem and not by the bowl, as your hand warms the wine faster than you think and you notice that above all with a chilled white. If you use the series beyond the wine moment, it takes an aperol spritz over plenty of ice perfectly well, or use the 45 cl as a glass for sangria.

Lead-free crystal glass and the dishwasher

Experience is made of lead-free crystal glass that can go in the dishwasher. Place the glasses apart from one another and do not let them rest against cutlery, because most damage comes not from heat but from contact. Dry them with a clean cloth while the glass is still lukewarm; that keeps the wall clear without limescale marks. The fine drinking rim is the most vulnerable point of any wine glass, so never pick the glass up by it when you take it out of the rack.

More among the wine glasses

If you are specifically after a larger bowl for burgundy or bordeaux, look at the red wine glasses. If you would rather have a narrower model that keeps the wine cool, the white wine glasses are closer to what you need. The rest of this brand's range is under Stölzle Lausitz. And if you want to keep the bottle at temperature between glasses, you end up at the wine coolers.
