What is the difference between a cobbler and a Boston shaker?
The cobbler has the strainer built into the cap; the Boston consists of two separate tins and needs a separate strainer. The cobbler is simpler to use, the Boston works faster and offers more room for ice.
How do I get the cap off my shaker?
Leave the shaker to stand for half a minute or hold the seam under warm water. The cold has contracted the metal and it expands again. Never pry it off with force, because that deforms the rim and the cap will never close properly again.
How long should you shake a cocktail?
Ten to fifteen seconds, hard and short, until the outside of the shaker frosts over completely. Shaking longer mainly dilutes. Fill the tin three quarters full with ice first, because too little ice melts faster and waters down the cocktail.
Is a cobbler shaker dishwasher safe?
Stainless steel models can go in. Coated versions in copper, gold and black should be washed by hand, without a scouring pad, as the layer would otherwise go dull. Either way, rinse out the strainer holes straight after use.
