Arrogant Frog
Arrogant Frog is a wine brand from Languedoc in southern France, made by Jean-Claude Mas. The name is a joke: the English sometimes call the French arrogant frogs. The wines themselves are serious, fruity, and easy to drink, with the grape clearly displayed on the label. Here you can read what Arrogant Frog is, which wines are available, and what to eat with them.
Arrogant Frog and the region behind it
Arrogant Frog comes from one of France’s largest wine regions. We have a dedicated page about the region and its main grapes.

About French wine →A French frog with a sense of humor
Arrogant Frog is a wine brand by Jean-Claude Mas, a well-known winemaker from Languedoc. With this brand, he makes French wine in a New World style: fruity, approachable, and with the grape variety prominently displayed on the label, as you know from wines from Australia or Chile. The rest of the label is a joke. The English sometimes call the French "frogs" because they eat frog legs, and consider them a little arrogant. Mas made it his mascot.
The wines come from Languedoc, the large, sunny wine region along the Mediterranean. There are single-varietal wines, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier, as well as blends such as Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot or Malbec with Syrah. A few wines are organic, such as Chardonnay Bio and Rural Red.
The Ribet range is named after the sound a frog makes and is also available in a 37.5 cl half bottle, enough for three glasses. There are also special cuvées such as Château Arrogant Frog, a Chardonnay from Limoux near the Pyrenees, and Les Calades, a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. For parties, there is red, white, and rosé in a 3-liter bag-in-box.
In brief
Twenty bottles, from white to red
Gall & Gall sells around twenty Arrogant Frog products, from half bottles to bag in box and a duo gift set. These are the best known.

Toasty and Buttery Chardonnay
The name says it all: you can taste toasted bread and butter from the oak ageing. Full-bodied and creamy.

White Satin
A blend of 80% chardonnay, 17% viognier and 3% muscat. Soft, full-bodied and slightly floral.

Sauvignon Blanc
Fresh, with citrus, gooseberry, tropical fruit and freshly cut grass.

Viognier
A full-bodied, aromatic white wine, made from parcels that are vinified separately first.

Arrogant Frog Rosé
Very fruity, with strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant. There is also a rosé bag in box made from syrah.

Pinot Noir
Fruity and juicy, firm in structure but with plenty of softness.

Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
The classic. A Bordeaux-style blend, but fruitier. Also available as Ribet Red in a half bottle and as a bag in box.

Malbec Syrah
Powerful, with ripe plums, cassis, mocha and spices. Brief ageing in oak adds vanilla and liquorice.

Red Velvet Late Harvest
Made from a vineyard that was harvested later than the rest. This makes it ripe and full-bodied.

Bag in Box
The same wine as in the bottle, but in a convenient 3-litre box. The red is cabernet sauvignon with merlot.

Sunny fruit with French softness
From fresh to creamy
Sauvignon Blanc is fresh, with citrus and grass. The chardonnays are fuller, with butter, toast and vanilla from the oak. Viognier and White Satin are floral and soft.
Fruity and smooth
Cabernet Merlot and Rural Red have plum, red berries and soft tannins. Malbec Syrah is more full-bodied, with mocha and spices, while Pinot Noir is lighter and juicier.
Red fruit
The rosé is very fruity, with strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant. Dry and refreshing.
Average flavour profile of Arrogant Frog. Sauvignon Blanc scores higher on freshness, while Malbec Syrah and Toasty and Buttery score higher on intensity.
How to serve Arrogant Frog
Fruity wine is best not served too warm. This keeps it fresh and juicy.
White and rosé, chilled
Serve Sauvignon Blanc and rosé at 8 to 10 degrees. Full-bodied chardonnays, White Satin and Viognier may be served slightly warmer, around 10 to 12 degrees, so you can taste their creaminess.
More about wine temperature →Red, slightly chilled
Pinot Noir is best served at 14 to 15 degrees. Serve Cabernet Merlot, Malbec Syrah and Red Velvet at 16 to 17 degrees. In a warm room, place the bottle in the fridge for about fifteen minutes.
More about wine temperature →Half bottle or bag in box
A 37.5 cl Ribet is exactly three glasses, convenient when you're alone or with two people. The bag in box stays good for a few weeks after opening because no air reaches the wine.
Arrogant Frog at the table
South French wine belongs with sunny cuisine: grilled meat, fish, salads and a good cheese platter.
Light and fresh
With sushi, prawns, a green salad or goat cheese. The rosé is at its best with salads and snacks on the patio.
Fish and poultry
With smoked salmon, fish fried in butter, grilled chicken, shellfish with a rich sauce or mild cheeses.
Everyday reds
Pinot Noir with duck, salmon or mushroom risotto. Cabernet Merlot with pasta, burgers or a stew.
From the barbecue
With barbecue spareribs, steak and sausages, or for gourmet dining. The spices in the wine pair well with grilled meat.
