Hooghoudt Aged Genever 6 Years
Malt wine made from barley, wheat and rye, aged for six years in first fill Oloroso sherry casks. Raspberry and juniper on the nose, raisins and cocoa on the palate: a genever to savor like a whisky.

Genever aged for six years in sherry casks
Aged Genever 6 Years is Hooghoudt's most distinctive bottle. Its base is malt wine, distilled from barley, wheat and rye. It matures for six years in first fill Oloroso sherry casks: casks that are filled for the first time after holding sherry and therefore still impart plenty of flavor. Distillates of raspberry, white grape, cocoa and Dutch juniper are then added.
The result is more like sherry-aged whisky than a shot straight from the freezer. The juniper is still there, but shares the spotlight with raisins, currants, toasted almond and cocoa. At 40%, it is Hooghoudt's strongest bottle and the one best enjoyed in a tasting glass, like a whisky.

Taste it like a whisky
Hooghoudt recommends three ways: neat in a tasting and nosing glass, in a tumbler with an ice cube, or in a cocktail.
Neat in a nosing glass
Pour 30 ml at room temperature into a tulip-shaped tasting glass. First smell the raspberry and juniper, then taste the raisin and cocoa.
Tasting glasses →With an ice cube
40 ml over a single ice cube in a tumbler. The ice makes it slightly fresher and brings the fruit forward without suppressing the cocoa.
Tumblers →Raspberry smash
Hooghoudt itself makes a smash with it: 50 ml Aged 6 with lime juice, sugar syrup, fresh raspberries, and mint, muddled and shaken, over crushed ice in a tumbler.
Similar: Bramble →Whisky classics with sherry-aged genever
A genever this rich can replace whisky in stirred and sour classics.

Bramble
Lemon, sugar, and blackberry liqueur over crushed ice. With Aged 6, the fruit complements the raspberry in the bottle.
Genever Manhattan
Sweet vermouth and bitters, stirred and served in a coupe. The sherry notes make it deep and rounded.
Genever Sour
Lemon, sugar, and egg white. Raisin and cocoa beneath a soft foam cap.
Boulevardier
Campari and sweet vermouth with an aged base. The genever's cocoa notes complement the bitterness.More Hooghoudt flavours
