What is Jameson Black Barrel?

What makes Black Barrel black?

The name refers to the barrels. Jameson Black Barrel matures in barrels that have been charred on the inside not once, but twice. That thick layer of charcoal draws more sweetness from the oak: vanilla, caramel and toffee stand out more clearly than in regular Jameson. It also contains a special grain whiskey that is distilled only once a year, as well as a higher proportion of pot still whiskey.

The result is a whiskey that still has the smoothness of triple distillation, but tastes fuller and sweeter. The alcohol content is the same as the Original: 40%. While the green bottle is mainly mixed with ginger ale, Black Barrel is made to be enjoyed neat, with an ice cube or in a classic whiskey cocktail.

Everything about Jameson →
What percentage of alcohol is in Jameson Black Barrel?
Jameson Black Barrel contains 40% alcohol, the same as regular Jameson Original.
What is the difference between Jameson and Jameson Black Barrel?
Black Barrel is matured in barrels that have been charred twice on the inside and contains more pot still whiskey and a grain whiskey that is distilled only once a year. This makes it richer and sweeter, with notes of vanilla, caramel, and nuts. The Original is lighter and fresher and is primarily intended for mixing.
What does 'double charred' mean?
The inside of the barrels is charred twice before the whiskey goes in. That charred layer imparts more sweet notes of vanilla and caramel to the whiskey.
Do you drink Jameson Black Barrel neat or on the rocks?
Either works. You taste the most nuances neat; with one large ice cube, it becomes smoother and sweeter. For a long drink with ginger ale, the Original is the more logical choice.
Is Jameson Black Barrel suitable for cocktails?
Yes, especially for cocktails in which the whiskey takes center stage, such as an Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour. The sweet barrel notes make these cocktails fuller than with the Original.
