What is Jack Daniel's Bonded?

What does bottled in bond mean?

Bottled in bond is an American quality standard with four requirements. The whiskey comes from a single distillery, in this case Jack Daniel's in Lynchburg. It was distilled in a single distilling season. It has been aged for at least four years. And it goes into the bottle at a minimum of 50% ABV. Jack Daniel's Bonded meets all four requirements.

Other than that, it's simply Jack: sour mash, three meters of maple charcoal that the whiskey drips through in about ten days, and maturation in new, charred oak barrels. The difference lies in the strength. With 10 percentage points more alcohol than Old No. 7, it's fuller and richer, with brown sugar and nuts, and stands up in cocktails where regular Jack disappears.

How to drink it

How to get the most out of 50%

Bonded is strong enough to play with water. Try it neat first, then with a few drops of water, and use it in cocktails that need body.

Neat, then with water

Pour 3 cl into a tulip-shaped glass and take a first small sip. Then add a teaspoon of cold water and taste again: the alcohol subsides, and the brown sugar and nuts come forward.
