What is Trojka?

Swiss vodka in a colourful jacket

Trojka is a vodka liqueur from Diwisa, a family-owned distillery in Willisau, Switzerland. It is made with Swiss vodka, fruit, sugar and colouring, resulting in a sweet liqueur at 17%. Each colour represents a flavour: Pink with red berries and cranberry, Orange with orange, and Sun with yuzu, peach and a hint of rosemary. There are also Red, Green, Blue and Black, among others, but in the Netherlands, Pink, Orange and Sun are the easiest to find.

Trojka is particularly popular in the Dutch student and party scene. Trojka Pink with Sprite is a staple long drink in many bars, and the bottles are served ice-cold as shots. At 17%, it is considerably milder than pure vodka, making it easy to drink neat. The large 4.5-litre bottle with dispensing pump is the party version.

What percentage of alcohol is in Trojka?
Trojka Pink, Orange and Sun all contain 17% alcohol. That's about half as much as pure vodka (40%) and comparable to Passoã or Pisang Ambon. Mixed with Sprite, it comes to around 4 to 5%.
Where does Trojka come from?
From Switzerland. Trojka is made by Diwisa, a family distillery in Willisau, in the canton of Lucerne. The base is Swiss vodka, supplemented with fruit and sugar.
What does Trojka Pink taste like?
It tastes of sweet red berries and cranberry, with a hint of aloe vera. Think red candy with a light vodka kick. It's best served ice-cold; with Sprite, it becomes fresh and light.
What can you mix Trojka with?
With Sprite or 7-Up (the classic), soda water, tonic or prosecco. Trojka Orange is delicious with soda water and a slice of orange, while Trojka Sun works well with prosecco as a spritz. A splash in a fruity cocktail such as a Woo Woo or Sex on the Beach also works well.
What is the difference between Trojka and Flügel?
Both are sweet vodka-based shots, but Flügel is a small 10% bottle with an energy drink flavor that is always the same. Trojka is a 17% liqueur in various fruit flavors, in a regular bottle, and is drunk as a long drink just as often as it is as a shot.
Does Trojka need to be refrigerated?
After opening, the fridge is the best place to store it, or the freezer if you drink it as a shot. Because of the 17% alcohol content and sugar, the bottle won't freeze. When tightly sealed, an opened bottle stays delicious for months.
