Tokkelroom
Tokkelroom is a thick, sweet egg drink that closely resembles advocaat, but with less alcohol. You don't just drink it; you also spoon it. Here you can read what tokkelroom is, how it differs from advocaat and how to serve it.
Advocaat, but lighter
Tokkelroom is an egg drink: a thick, yellow drink made with eggs, sugar and alcohol. In terms of taste and thickness, it closely resembles advocaat. The main difference is the amount of alcohol. Tokkelroom has 8%, while advocaat has at least 14%.
That difference also explains the name. An egg liqueur may only be called advocaat if it contains at least 14% alcohol. At 8%, tokkelroom falls below that threshold, which is why it was given its own name. Because of its lower strength, tokkelroom tastes softer and somewhat sweeter and creamier. Like advocaat, it is often eaten with a spoon, topped with a dollop of whipped cream.
