What is Grand Marnier Cuvée du Centenaire?

One hundred years of Marnier Lapostolle in a bottle

The Cuvée du Centenaire was created in 1927 to celebrate the centenary of the Marnier Lapostolle house. While the Cordon Rouge consists of approximately half cognac, this is 82% XO cognac, complemented by 18% bitter orange liqueur. The XO cognacs used are up to 25 years old: aged longer, and therefore richer and rounder.

As with the other Grand Marnier expressions, the blend is aged for another six to eight months in large oak casks after the orange distillate is added. The alcohol content is the same as the rest of the range: 40%. Compared with the Louis Alexandre, which has the same proportion of cognac but uses VSOP, the Centenaire is deeper and more complex. A bottle to serve neat, for a moment that matters.

How to drink it

How to pour Centenaire

You don't drink this bottle in a cocktail. Treat it like a fine XO cognac.

Neat at room temperature

2 to 3 cl in a cognac glass. Let it stand for a few minutes so the aroma opens up, warm the glass in your hand and sip slowly.

Alongside coffee

Pour a small glass alongside an espresso after dinner. The bitter coffee and orange enhance each other; not in the coffee, but alongside it.

With dark chocolate

A small glass alongside a piece of dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage. Taste them alternately: the chocolate makes the orange fresher and the cognac smoother.

Everything about Grand Marnier →
What percentage of alcohol is in Grand Marnier Cuvée du Centenaire?
Cuvée du Centenaire contains 40% alcohol, just like Cordon Rouge and Louis Alexandre.
What is the difference between Cuvée du Centenaire and Cordon Rouge?
Cordon Rouge consists of 51% cognac. Cuvée du Centenaire contains 82% XO cognac and 18% orange liqueur, making it richer, more complex, and more cognac-forward than orange-forward. It is intended to be enjoyed neat.
What is the difference from Louis Alexandre?
Both contain 82% cognac, but Louis Alexandre uses VSOP, while the Centenaire uses XO cognacs aged up to 25 years. This makes the Centenaire richer and smoother.
Why is it called Cuvée du Centenaire?
It was created in 1927 to mark the centenary of the Marnier Lapostolle house. Centenaire means centenary.
How long does an opened bottle keep?
At 40% alcohol, it does not spoil. Kept tightly sealed, upright and out of the sun, it will remain good for years; however, the aroma may become slightly flatter after a long time in a half-empty bottle.
