GlenDronach
Single malt from the eastern Highlands, known for its rich maturation in sherry casks. Dried fruit, chocolate and spices. Everything about the distillery, the bottles, the flavor and the glass that goes with it.
The sherry specialist from the Highlands
GlenDronach is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Highlands. The distillery was founded in 1826 by James Allardice and stands in a sheltered valley near the village of Forgue, in Aberdeenshire in eastern Scotland. The name is often translated as 'valley of the brambles'.
GlenDronach is known for its maturation in sherry casks. Most of the whisky is matured in casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez or oloroso sherry. This gives the whisky its dark color and rich flavor, with dried fruit, raisins, chocolate and spices. The whisky is not peated. Since 2016, GlenDronach has been part of Brown-Forman, along with sister distillery Benriach. The master blender is Dr. Rachel Barrie.

In brief
What types of GlenDronach are there?
Gall & Gall sells the established classics and a few limited bottlings. Once the latter are gone, they're gone.

GlenDronach 12 Years Original
Matured in Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry casks. Sweet and creamy, with raisins, ginger and spices. The ideal introduction.

GlenDronach 15 Years Revival
Fifteen years in Pedro Ximénez and oloroso casks. Fuller and deeper than the 12, with dried fruit, chocolate and vanilla.

GlenDronach Port Wood
Matured in port casks, a nod to the time when port arrived in Scotland in barrels. Dried fruit, nuts and a hint of port.

GlenDronach Ode to the Valley
Matured in ruby port and sherry casks. Ripe summer fruit, berries and a sweet, floral note.

GlenDronach Ode to the Dark
A dark, powerful bottling at higher strength. Intended for slow tasting, with a drop of water.

GlenDronach 28 Years PX Cask
A single Pedro Ximénez cask, selected by Rachel Barrie for the Dutch market. Mahogany-colored, with blackberries and black grapes.
Start with the 12 Years. If you want more, the 15 Years Revival is the logical next step.
Rich and sweet, with sherry and dried fruit
Raisins & Christmas
Raisins, figs, orange peel and cinnamon. Think Christmas cake and dark honey. No smoke.
Full and creamy
Round and sweet, with toffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit and ginger. Deeper and fuller in the 15 Years and limited releases.
Long and warming
Sweet sherry, oak and spices that linger. At higher strength, also some licorice and espresso.
Flavor profile of GlenDronach 12 Years. The 15 Years and limited releases are fuller and more powerful.
Three ways to drink GlenDronach
GlenDronach is a whisky to drink slowly neat, preferably after dinner. A drop of water helps with the stronger bottles.
Neat
Pour 30 ml into a tulip-shaped tasting glass and let it sit for a few minutes. This brings out the dried fruit and chocolate best.
Glass: tasting glass →With a drop of water
With Ode to the Dark or the 28 Years at over 50% ABV, a few drops of water soften the alcohol and open up the sherry notes.
Glass: tasting glass →Old Fashioned
Stir 50 ml GlenDronach 12 Years with a teaspoon of sugar syrup and two dashes of bitters over ice, with orange peel. Rich and Christmassy.

Thanks to its sherry notes, GlenDronach works well in rich, dark cocktails. Choose the 12 Years and save the older bottles for drinking neat.

Old Fashioned
Whisky, sugar and bitters. With GlenDronach, you get raisins and orange in the glass.
Hot Toddy
Hot water, honey, lemon and whisky. GlenDronach's Christmas-like spices are a perfect match.
Penicillin
Scotch with lemon, honey and ginger. The ginger in the 12 Years comes through beautifully.
