bar-professional-lewis-bag-ijszak-canvas
Bar Professional Lewis Bag Canvas Ice Bag

The Lewis Bag is the simplest and, at the same time, finest tool behind the bar: a sturdy canvas bag in which you pound ice cubes into crushed ice with a wooden mallet. Why a bag instead of a blender? Because the canvas absorbs the meltwater immediately. What you scoop out is dry, flaky ice that chills your cocktail without diluting it — exactly what a Mint Julep, a Mai Tai, or a Swizzle needs. You fill the bag, fold it closed, pound it firmly a few times, and decide for yourself whether you want coarse chunks or fine snow. No other device gives you that level of control. It also makes hardly any noise compared with an ice crusher, which is more pleasant behind a busy bar than you might think.

How to get the most out of it

Use ice straight from the freezer: wet ice sticks together and breaks poorly. Fill the bag no more than halfway, strike it with a wooden ice mallet, and work from the outside toward the center. Rinse the canvas with cold water after use and hang it open to dry; the bag will stay fresh and strong for years.

Essential for your ice setup

Pair the bag with an ice mallet, a good ice scoop, and an insulated container from the Bar Professional collection, or explore everything related to ice cubes & ice accessories.
